Leaves

The leaves of the young Paperbark Maple are one of the most striking features of this tree. They are hand-shaped with 3 to 5 lobed edges. In spring and summer, they have a dark green color. The leaves of this Acer griseum are about 8 to 12 centimeters in size and have a slightly ribbed texture. Additionally, the combination of the leaves with the peeling bark creates a beautiful contrast.

Autumn Color

The autumn colors that this tree develops with its stunning leaves range from fiery red to bright orange and warm golden hues. These beautiful colors provide a vibrant atmosphere in your garden. The colorful leaves often remain on the Paperbark Maple well into the fall.

Growth Habit

The Acer griseum is a slow-growing tree, making it very suitable for smaller gardens. When fully grown, this Paperbark Maple can reach a maximum height of 10 meters.

Location

To allow this young Paperbark Maple to grow optimally, you need to ensure it is planted in the right soil. The type of soil doesn’t matter as long as it is well-drained. This Acer griseum thrives best in a sunny location. Thanks to its winter hardiness, this young tree can handle wind and cold conditions well.

How to plant the tree?

1. Determine the final location of the tree and make sure it is free of cables, debris, old plants, and other things that could hinder the tree's growth.

2. Dig a planting hole that is twice as wide as the root ball. Loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole thoroughly and mix the excavated soil with (organic) garden soil or planting soil.

3. Adjust the depth of the planting hole so that the root ball fits perfectly, and press the soil down firmly.

4. Fill the planting hole with water and wait for it to fully drain. Check if the root ball is sufficiently moist.

5. Place the tree or plant into the planting hole. It is extremely important that the tree is not planted too deep, as this could cause the roots to rot.

6. Insert a sturdy tree stake or bamboo stick into the ground on the side from which the strongest wind comes.

7. Create a watering ring or form a small mound of soil around the tree to allow water to seep into the ground around it.
