Deciduous and Total Height
The Exochorda macrantha 'The Bride,' also known as the Pearl Bush/Tree, is naturally a deciduous shrub that can reach a modest height of 2 to 3 meters.
Shrub Form and Tree Form
The Exochorda macrantha 'The Bride' is often offered in two variants: as a shrub form and as a tree form. At Amitis, we offer this variety as a young tree.
Growth Habit
The Exochorda macrantha 'The Bride' has an upright and compact growth habit with drooping branches.
Leaf Color and Leaf Shape
The leaves are beautifully green and have an elongated, round shape.
Autumn Coloration
In the fall, the leaves turn to yellow hues before falling from the Pearl Tree.
Flowering
In the months of April-May, the Exochorda macrantha 'The Bride' blooms with an abundance of bright white, star-shaped flowers that appear on the drooping branches of the tree, creating a cascade of bright white flowers.
Fruits
After flowering, star-shaped fruits appear on the tree, which are yellow-brown in color.
Location
The Exochorda macrantha 'The Bride' prefers a sunny location in the garden and in a nutrient-rich, well-draining soil.
Pruning
The Pearl Tree can also be kept in size through pruning. Since the branches of this tree can grow vigorously, you can apply formative pruning to keep the tree in the desired size. The Exochorda macrantha 'The Bride' tolerates pruning well.
How to plant the tree?
- Determine the final location of the tree and ensure it is free from cables, debris, old plants, and other obstacles that may hinder the tree's growth.
- Dig a planting hole that is twice the width of the root ball. Loosen the soil at the bottom of the planting hole and mix the excavated soil with (organic) garden soil or planting substrate.
- Adjust the planting hole to the height where the root ball fits and firmly press the soil.
- Fill the planting hole with water and wait for it to settle. Check if the root ball is sufficiently moist.
- Place the tree or plant in the planting hole. It is extremely important that the tree is not planted too deep, as this can cause root rot.
- Insert a tree stake or bamboo stake firmly into the ground on the side of the tree where the most wind comes from.
- Now, place the watering ring or create a mound of soil around the tree so that water can seep into the ground.
